Business
Eastman Chemical Company (EMN) is a global specialty materials company that produces a broad range of advanced materials, additives and functional products, specialty chemicals, and fibers for applications in transportation, building and construction, consumer goods, textiles, agriculture, coatings, packaging, health and wellness, and other sectors. The company offers products including copolyesters such as Eastman Tritan™ and Cristal™, cellulosic fibers like Naia™, cellulose esters, plasticizers, solvents, process fluids, amine derivatives, alkylamine derivatives, propylene derivatives, organic acids and derivatives, polyester polymers, polyolefins, PVB sheets, window films, protective films, acetic anhydride, and recycled materials under Eastman Renew; these are found in everyday items such as medical devices, water bottles, automotive components, and sustainable packaging. Eastman operates 36 manufacturing facilities across the United States, Latin America, Europe, and Asia Pacific, including key sites in Kingsport, Tennessee; Longview, Texas; and China, serving customers worldwide with a focus on sustainability and circular economy solutions. Founded in 1920 as Tennessee Eastman by George Eastman in Kingsport, Tennessee, where it maintains headquarters, the company spun off from Eastman Kodak in 1994 to become independent and employs approximately 14,000 people. In 2025, Eastman formed a strategic partnership with Huafon Chemical to establish a joint manufacturing facility in China for sustainable Naia™ cellulose acetate staple fibers; the company also delayed by two years its planned $1.2 billion second U.S. methanolysis chemical recycling plant in Longview, Texas, following the U.S. Department of Energy's revocation of a $375 million grant in May 2025, while pursuing an appeal and debottlenecking its Kingsport facility to reach up to 130% capacity for recycled PET production.
