Headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, the company traces its origins to 1971 when First Alabama Bancshares was formed through the merger of three Alabama banks, later rebranding to Regions Financial Corporation in 1994 to reflect its regional expansion. The company targets individuals, small businesses, middle-market firms, nonprofits, healthcare providers, and institutional investors, maintaining leadership as the largest deposit holder in Alabama and Tennessee, and among the top in Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi. In recent years, Regions Financial has pursued inorganic growth through strategic acquisitions including Clearsight Advisors and EBank USA in 2021 to bolster technology and professional services M&A advisory, Sabal Capital Partners in late 2021 for small balance commercial real estate lending, and BlackArch Partners to expand mid-market M&A advisory capabilities, while expressing intent to capitalize on market disruptions from competitor mergers and pursue additional nonbank opportunities in wealth management and specialized lending amid expectations of net interest income growth of 3-5% in 2025.
