The mass shooting didn't seem to work either. It has to be a white cop or it doesn't count.

Yea I hated being a cop so went back to school while working. And just like with stocks, I did zero research. I just assumed that tech was everywhere but boy was I wrong. I’m absolutely certain I could land a job if I relocated but I can’t relocate due to family stuff. So I’m stuck in bum fuck nowhere making sure farmer Jenkins mends his fence before the cows get out again. Bad location + no experience= Handys behind Wendy’s or being cop (same thing I guess)

Oh thank god I found your comment. I live in the Deep South (nope nowhere near Atlanta). Got into IT because 6 figure jobs grow in abundance on the job tree. BA in cyber Security and 5 industry leading certs later and I’m going back to being a cop because there are zero jobs around me. Meanwhile a buddy in ATL saw a computer once and network engineer employers are creaming themselves to hire him. Start policing in a few months. No change in pay but hella time off. Never thought I’d see the day when policing paid better with more time off than IT. But then again never thought my house would accumulate $50k equity in 7 months

>you might find that out the hard way

I mean, the "government requirement" thing is kind of a cop out, in that freedom of expression is based in a fundamental principle. Yeah, the guy is posting goofy stuff but it isn't really harmful so I don't know why you are getting so worked up about it to the extent that you will menacingly tell him that he might find out the hard way (like he could suffer the fate of having an account suspended...yikes!)

>I dont think any of his claims where definitive.

Such a cheap cop-out.

>I sincerely hope he cracks it though, the road toll takes a fucking horrendous toll on society.

Why do you look up to Elon as if he's the only person leading the innovation?

Mercedes, Volvo, Volkswagen and Toyota are all way ahead of him in autonomous driving. You don't need 'daddy Elon' to give you autonomous driving.

Most charities are not scams, and even if they were, it is incredibly easy to find charities that are proven effective. Their books are open and reviewed by independent watchdogs.

Believing that most charities are scams is a super-easy cop-out to avoid the difficult decision to give money to people who desperately need it.

in NY you can postpone traffic court hearings for years online. next time do this and go to court like 3 years later with a lawyer.

otherwise watch your speed on some roads. i'll go 90 or so on some roads and within the limit on residential ones. in NJ i've had a cop watch me doing 75 on a 55 highway and didn't care because I don't weave through traffic or drive faster than the other cars on the road

You realize that no matter the article I post, you'll have some cop out about being biased. But it's Not like anyone has posted anything factual stating otherwise to begin with. Y'all haven't posted any reliable source.

So I'll leave it to you.

-look up smart toros audit results on Biden. You can even take it a step further by going on bidens profile and scrolling through his followers, you'll notice a bunch of profiles that were inactive, newly created, no profile pic, and many other obvious red flags.

-Hunter bidens hard drive has been hacked and publicly known since 2020. Look into twitters ban of the NY post and the post which were blocked/banned from twitter for trying to drop all of the info from the hard drive.

-Look into the correspondence between musk and Agrawal as to why musk backed out of the deal. They were not allowing full uncensored access and wouldn't allow musk to have the ability to allow it. They straight up lied and denied an actual audit finding. The findings of fake accounts from the audit was over 10x the amount that Agrawal stated. The agreement to buy Twitter was in complete violation of musk's terms, but they wouldn't budge regardless of the agreement. You could find all this on Google easily.

You can also Google the EEOC claims. Most of those claims found on Google were identified as "unsubstantiated." Jesus Christ, reddit feels like Twitter now. Y'all are so defensive and will continue to take a stance with no ground, while demanding me to prove my credibility.

Well in this business IMO you need a good cop and bad cop. Do you have a wife? I'm the bad cop and my wife is the good cop. Also since you are new, do not get too personal or they will use your emotions to steal from you. If they start telling you sob stories, which they will, shut them down and say that is none of your business. Your business is to make sure the unit is in good working order and you have to pay the bank on time and that is it. Be nice but firm, set the late fee high and always, always charge for it. Tell them that if they borrow money from you...pay late.....It is a lot cheaper to go with a title loan company than to borrow from you.

Look at it this way- breakdown the not all cops are bad argument. Is the point that all cops are bad? No. Most people agree that’s not the case. Is the point that just bc not all cops are bad, does not mean that the bad actors AND the SYSTEM that allows for those bad actors shouldn’t be punished? Yes that’s the point and I agree with that point.

To conclude: Not all pension funds are bad. Some ARE bad. We SHOULD lobby for punishing those bad actors and the politicians/regulators that enable those bad actors. We should NOT just say fuck every pension fund just as we should NOT say fuck every cop.

Thank you for coming to my ted talk

So you're in support of holding small business owners accountable for hiring illegals by stripping them of their ownership. Correct? Actions have consequences and running a business, having that kind of authority is a privilege, like being a cop.

Or you're fine with law breaking as long as it helps a business?

inflation is when more money is chasing fewer goods.

Just who gets that raise when minimum wage goes up? Every government employee, every cop, every teacher, every truck driver, every equipment operator. Everyone's contract is tied to minimum wage. When the minimum wage goes up, everyone gets more money.

Except the elderly on a fixed income from an annuity, they get screwed. The economy got inflated, they got nothing.

The end result is the same, I am wet. The person threw it on me or it was spilled on me makes no difference in that.

Hanlon's razor just says to attribute what could be regarded as malice to instead be seen as incompetence unless proven othwrwise, nothing more. It's a mental method of self de-escalation.

You react to the nuance of the situation and there is no nice and neat cookie cutter method to do that.

I'm not an internet tough guy and I would likely call the police if I was being clearly antagonized as dumping water on someone is technically assault.

Will they get out of it in the end? Probably. But I just made their day a lot harder and then there is the continued annoyance that is fighting a ticket or assault charge and/or getting trespassed out of wherever the incident happened. It's petty, but I don't cop an assault charge this way and don't hurt my future job prospects, etc.

Hanlon's razor is there to make you pause momentarily before you put your fist in someone's jaw in this case.

It could be that you were passed over for a promotion at work and that pause makes you rethink sending that scathing email to HR that you were writing and find a more productive way to communicate your disappointment.

I would but I’m afraid that when they start shooting arrows at me and draw first blood like that time after I got back from Vietnam when I was hitchhiking through Hope, Washington and this king shit cop tried to arrest me and shave me. Shit gave me flashbacks. I went crazy and beat the shit out of them so they had a manhunt and I went on a rampage in the forest. It was a blood bath until Colonel Trautman talked to me. I’m just afraid things might get out of hand there and I might hurt them.

Well he was in a work corral (basically a big walled in area with like 4' high cubicle walls). Everyone who walked by could see him and I was actually told by a cop worker that walked by that saw him made for an awkward Convo.

But unlike other disputatious pols who put their energy into fighting for its own sake or tearing down others, Levesque’s impatient, sometimes aggressive manor (which includes mixing it up on social media) is in service of a bold, positive vision that he’s working to execute.

’Execution Leaves Scars’

Much of the responsibility for executing this vision falls on Auburn’s city manager, Phil Crowell, a native son who spent 25 years on the city’s police force, including 12 as chief. He also served a few brief stints as an interim manager over the years, before retiring from the force and becoming the city’s assistant manager. Levesque elevated Crowell to city manager in 2020.

“Leaders want leaders,” Levesque says about Crowell. “They want people who execute.” “Execution leaves scars,” he admits. But he sees the status quo as untenable—and Crowell is the one who has to implement the changes decided on by Levesque and the City Council.

Crowell and his assistant city manager, Brian Wood, are cut from entirely different cloth—and Levesque seems to like it that way. Crowell is physically imposing and looks like a retired cop from central casting; Wood is of average build and about half Crowell’s age. Crowell is the hometown boy; Wood grew up in Cleveland and worked in DC for 10 years, first as an intern on Capitol Hill and then in DC city government. Crowell has a degree in justice administration from the University of Maine; Wood studied political science and sociology at Miami University in Ohio.

In short, Crowell and Wood represent the two sides of Levesque’s approach to public administration: Crowell is the old-timer who knows how to make things run in Auburn; Wood is the technocrat with the expansive network.

Both Crowell and Wood have experienced the city’s housing crunch firsthand. Crowell’s 25-year-old son is getting married and wants to build a home in Auburn, but finding land has proven difficult. Wood moved to Maine in 2020 and has yet to buy a home. Moving from DC was a shock to him: It’s not that housing is expensive in Auburn, it’s that it’s simply not available.

Crowell has had to reset some expectations within the city government’s workforce to enact the city’s pro-growth agenda, which has been challenging at times. For instance, he says, the planning and permitting functions were expected in the past to be revenue neutral. As the city cut fees dramatically, department managers worried the decline in revenues would reflect poorly on them. So Crowell had to instill in them the understanding that “the work you are doing will bring greater value than the permit fee.” As it turns out, he says, the increase in total development has largely offset the losses from the lower fees.

Not everyone is on board with Levesque’s push to build new housing. Recently, a group of residents began circulating a petition to override the City Council’s decision to allow denser development in some areas of the city through the application of form based code. Under the terms of the city charter, if they gather 1,648 signatures, the council will have to reconsider its action. Ultimately, it may go to the voters in a referendum.

The planning board’s Cyr says the city has been working hard to encourage public participation in the process, using the local press to “drum up awareness” and helping people connect specific plans, especially those that affect their homes and neighborhoods, with the city’s larger goals. “You can’t give fluffy existential answers” when people ask pointed questions about what, say, the application of form based code will mean to the value of their homes and the character of their neighborhoods. Homeowners fear the unknown, and not without reason.

I live between upper middle class and trailer garbage. It's all pretty mixed, you'll see both on any road around here. I do target cheap homes but try to not have a trailer next door. I was at a red light in the middle of town and saw one of my tenants being hauled across the street in orange and cuffs by a cop. He shouted " did you get that cash (rent) I left for you Shitogi?" Badly mispronouncing my name while making me sound like a dealer. Good times.

Investing in "war zones" comes with a much higher cost of operations, much higher brain space whether or not you have a property manager, much better stories to tell around the bar, and in most cases better returns. If you are looking for passivity and ease of operations you should avoid it, if you are chasing every dollar and you have the ability and desire to take on more responsibility (even with a PM) then you can make more.

Two quick meIRLs:

  1. PM called to tell me that a fridge broke, and we needed to replace it. Ok. Great, the next day I'm out driving around the properties and I see a "For Sale - Works" sign on a fridge in my parking lot.
  2. PM calls: I just had to call the cop, Tenant X, chased me off the property with a machete as I was posting the eviction notice. This will make the eviction easier.

Well, you’ve already nailed the first step by admitting you’re wrong and owning your mistakes. Next you need to fill your wife in on all of this and have a plan.

I think about this all the time. I make similar money, and my gf makes close to 6 figs herself. My expenses only are only 3200/mo. We plan to have kids and buy a home in the near future, but I tell her we need to act like we’re on a cop and teacher salary in order to prepare ourselves for something like this. We don’t have much family around as a safety net, so I am even questioning having kids.

Sounds like your situation is not dire yet. You need to find the motivation to get a similar paying job or any job to keep you from using your savings. I’m sorry to hear this and really hope your situation gets better soon friend 🙏🏼

I'm a Millennial. I just get sick of whiny ass Millennials blaming old people for their problems. There are real injustices and inequalities in this world, sure. But generational blame is

  1. faulty logic because all of the Millennials would have been the Boomers had we been born then. The human genome hasn't changed, so Boomers are Boomers because of their environment, and that would have been our environment.

  2. a cop out because there is still abundant opportunity to be had. There's never been a better or easier time to start a business than right now. There's never been more free education available at your fingertips. The WW2 generation had to go fight fascism and interrupt the prime of their lives at great risk. The Boomers had to fight in Vietnam, and 58,000 of them died. They had injustices, too....they just looked different.

I just get tired of the complaining.

She was the one who went after me, i was like 3rd to last, she was second. Thats it, said it wasnt me. cop said the camera wasnt clear enough to prove one way or another, so they threw it out. You wanna know whats criminal. Just spent 2 hours in a court room to fight a school bus stop sign camera violation. It was highly suspect on the timing, the situation, whatever, there is no way an actual cop witnessing would have pulled me over. There weren’t even kids on the sidewalk, the bus was 5 lanes away. $250 fine. 30 of the 45 people in the court room were there for the same thing. 1 woman was sided with, all others ordered to pay the fine, and there were some legitimate cases that should have been let go, obviously some were just blatant and stupid. But what really grinds my gears is of the 15 or so not for this, they went first. DUIs, $100 fine. 2 people that actually ran lights and caused accidents with injuries. $50, and $60 dollar fine. What the actual fuck. Its just a giant money scam with these cameras.

Good cop vs Bad cop. Bernanke did more damage to the market, economy, and nearly destroyed the entire financial system with his loose monetary policy. Luckily J-Pow has decided to one up him. 12 years from now J-Pow will same the same thing as Bernanke is saying today. The difference is the Federal Reserve will have no credibility left in 12 years.

to be fair, so are most financial podcasts. sure, there's some good advice sprinkled in somewhere 'live within your means, make a budget', but how many times do you need to hear the same thing? most of it is not some economist's bright insights, it's often repeated chit-chat about the same things over and over.

let's face it, most people enjoy some type of 'mindless entertainment', their own version of soap operas, so to speak.

for me, it's cbs/nbc primetime shows. am i getting any smarter by watching one more episode of an unrealistically good looking cop team solve an international heist? no. is it fun? yes

Do you remember not too long ago when grocery stores were out of toilet papers? That is the free market. What about when people started hoarding gas into plastic bags? Right, that is free market as well. These are not exactly "essential" yet people do these ridiculous things to make profit. Can you imagine if it's your life on the line?

You want to talk free unregulated market? Fine - let's say you got into a car accident. Not your fault, but the other driver is refusing to acknowledge fault as well. Your daughter is in the car, but she got her hand stuck between the car and the pavement. The cop calls an ambulance to get your daughter to the nearest hospital. This ambulance charges 3x market rate, and the hospital charges 2x the market rate. There is another hospital about 1 hour away, which provides their services at a more competitive price, like you said. Which one do you go to?

Whoops, the other driver thinks it's your fault. He doesn't want to pay. You are now on the hook to pay up front, because the hospital doesn't want to eat the loss. Free market - govt doesn't require hospitals to treat emergency cases. They need $30k up front for the operation. You have $20k in your savings account. You have another $10k but it's in your 401k with 15% penalty. Do you take the penalty?

I have been on the free market system in a third world country. Guess what - they just moved to a single payer system in 2019 lol

Every investor has their own predictions. Hell even Warren Buffet has had bad predictions like COP in 2008 or even AMZN and GOOGL earlier. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a fan either but she does give out free information on her research and she also pushes for a strategy where you average down. Implying that their investments are highly volatile and unpredictable. That’s what I meant by transparent.

It doesn’t help that, in Canada, regulations are so draconian that you can still get higher quality weed for cheaper on the black market(sometimes from legal growers who find it easier to sell under the table than comply with the idiotic regulations). If I go to the store, I get bone dry, mid level quality weed that was harvested months ago and shoved into a plastic container to shrivel and die until being sold for $6-20/gram. I can get a grade weed that was recently harvested with care off the black market for $60 an ounce. I’m not complaining though, the price was 3x before legalization, so legalization has made the product cheaper, but I fully understand why the legal market has never met expectations, it my opinion putting a former cop (Bill Blair for gods sake) in charge of legalization was a huge mistake. He never respected the market or the product and ended up railroading the industry from the beginning.

I knew a cop who made millions at a tech company, but decided he wanted to be a police officer instead. It’s what he wanted to do as a kid, but the tech money has hard to turn down once he got into it.

Seriously. It's the same centrist "both sides are the same" cop-out people use to excuse themselves from looking deeper.

Warren and Sanders don't advocate for zero personal wealth. They advocate heftier taxes on obscene wealth. If you think 12 mil is obscene then your brain would melt when you comprehend how much 12 billion really is.

It's less about expecting them to be superheroes and more about legit data and logical conclusions.

As much as they like to say increased presence deters crime, there's no statisical correlation to support that. The idea that a cop will be in the right place at the right time to catch the baddie is something they'd very much like you to believe, but is not really realistic or possible.

Some people are too comfortable with strangers. A friend of a friend of mine is a cop and while we were all hanging out, he thought I was conservative for some reason. Started talking to me about how Hitler wasn't so bad and "how he got things done".

>Should I meet with HR to try to negotiate a fair raise
>
>My boss suggested I reach out to HR and have them run me through the numbers

The HR involvement is a little foreign to me.

In my organization, HR doesn't dictate pay or get involved in raise discussions. They can/will provide salary ranges and outlooks to department heads, but that is more for informational purposes, not limits or budgets.

In my organization, department leaders budget their headcount and payroll (salaries, bonus, burden), and make decisions as needed to staff our departments. We negotiate compensation with with new hires, and we handle pay increases. When budgeting, our CFO does send us guidance on how much we can/should increase our departmental payroll to accommodate new hires and annual merit raises, but it's based on organizational goals, and it's negotiable, and we (department leaders) have discretion on how to use those dollars.

I guess every organization handles this differently, but "go talk to HR" seems like a cop-out response from your manager. They are ultimately responsible for the work that you and your team perform, and should have more of a vested interest in addressing questions like this.

sounds like you have a cushy job. You could make 2x more money, but then work 2x as much. touch call.

want more money? get an offer for more money. until you have real reason to leave, they can assume you will not.

arguing with HR about money isnt helping. Your boss needs to push for the raise, HR will not give it to you. If your boss thinks your gonna quit and cant live without you, he will fight for more money. Him sending you to HR is a totally cop out- HR's job is to sit there and say "Yes I care" then turn around and give zero shits.

If you worked with someone who had paid their debt to society? Who might be on the sex offender list because they took a leak in a deserted alley at 3am after a night at the pub they didn't even particularly want to go to, and a cop happened to be walking past?

June is Pride month. For those of you who don't know what that means, it is a celebration of when a black transgender person curbstomped a NYC cop, said 'Fuck da police', and led the bears to liberation as they burned Wall Street to the ground. We honor that money by buying puts and telling C-suites they better behave unless they want to be next to see the firing squad.

>The problem with the original Roe V Wade ruling was that it resorted to very creative reasoning by inferring rights that the constitution did not explicitly provide.

So does this ruling. If you start quoting a 17th century jurist who didn't think you could rape your wife, you ignore 300 years of history to suit your own needs. The question should have been: "Do woman have the right to an abortion" instead of "Did the law give woman the right to an abortion?" This is the main problem problem with literalist, they don't look beyond the letter of the law already written and don't try to make life actively better.

The writing is already on the wall. What do you think that 17th century jurist thinks about interracial or gay marriage? Two rights which people should have, but as many other have said, the reasoning that is going to strike down Roe v Wade can be used 1-to-1 in those circumstances.

>So based on what you're saying, it would probably be best to have a constitutional amendment to create those rights, rather than resorting to overly creative reasoning. That in turn would require a vote to do so.

No, not what I said nor what I hold. I said it would have been best if the supreme court used a cop-out, f.e. not take the case in the first place, or finding some BS technical reason to strike down the mississippi law. Even if they really wanted to get rid of 24 weeks, upholding Roe v Wade but finding some BS reason to uphold the mississippi law as well. 15 weeks is better than nothing for woman who live in state with trigger-laws. Who is going to stop them, the supremiest of sumpreme courts?
