After watching 'age of easy money' I was interested in investing in financial restructuring firms. I found FTI consulting...thoughts?

Sorry but what? Private equity, M&A, and consulting are all extremely cyclical. Maybe not your restructuring firms like FTI, Alix Partners, Alvarez & Marsal or certain restructuring practices but those are a very small piece of the finance/consulting pie.

Stared investing in Juli. Looking at a 30% yearly return. I am choosing stocks based on how uncorrelated they are to the market and minimising drawdowns. Losing positions are historically good, haven't lost as much as the markets, and are very large portions of the portfolio. Might sell if it looks like a stock won't recover, but so far i've only sold one for a 40 quid loss. Still up like 180.

Slack security is partially based on the owner of the data implementing correct security procedures via a shared responsibility. Take Two did not do their own due diligence. I find PHI/PII/FTI and Creds all the time in Slack when running Security Assessments.

Sorry, none in my list. But then the buy part is not that important, you need to have a plan when to buy how much and when to sell. You can only lose 100% but I have some 1000%ers in my gambling portfolio. I sell the worst performer whenever I find something better and I sell 20% of every holding every 12 months because I need some money to live.

Waste my money? Bro I waste my money on car parts (cammotion camshafts, FTI torque converters, shit even B&M Diff covers that cost $300) and I never get that money back. Now these plays? Measly 5k to maybe get back 100k shit I’ll take that risk any day. I ain’t rich but I do make good enough money working to risk it for the biscuit. You guys are just pussies that don’t take risk, and I’m a captain, I’ll sink with my ship.

At least I have FTI going for me lmao. Been absolutely fucking ripping this week after earnings and announcing a $400m buyback. There was like 40k+ volume on the 8/19 8c's a couple of weeks back out of nowhere with almost 0 OI previously, so I followed it. This was why lmao

I just ditched my Ameriprise advisor (1.1% fees!) and he had me in:

AAPL, ABT, ADI, AY, BBY, BSIIX, BSV, COST, CTLT, DRRIX, FTI, GOOG, HZNP, IJJ, JPM, KRNT, LHX, MBB, MSFT, MUB, PFE, PXD, SAP, SONY, SPG, SPGI, STIP, SUSC, TEL, TM, TSM, UBS, ULTA, UPS, V, VAW, VOX, VTWV, VWO

Kinda ridiculous. I'm working on moving to a 3 fund portfolio and simplify this.

CNQ, MNRL, DVN, DOLE, AEE, EXC, NOC, RTX, MDLZ, TRV, PEG, NTR, DFS, AEP, D, CMS, TJX, BDX, BAX, NEM, ENB, WMB.

These were bulk of my main overweight positions last year. Al have done well. I'm still long all the above although I sold DVN in December. Doing much better than faang..although my massive CNQ overweight is the main reason.

I let go of most dead weight before they became a problem..only dead weight I'm holding onto is FTI, PCT, MTCH, and AEM..still have some faith.

I've got a lot of oil in my portfolio but honestly I can't really recommend the super majors due to all the refining revenue, wasteful capex, management pay...

If there's actually a war we might get a short term spike in oil but I expect all equities (including oil/gas) to go in the opposite direction. War leads to recession, and recession will bring oil back down to $50.

Another issue is anyone that has revenue tied to US fracking is screwed in 15 years once US fracking assets dry up (they are depleting fast). Frackers are going to have nothing left to frack in 2 decades. Their entire business is a ponzi essentially (borrow money to finance capex projects)..this works until there is nothing left to drill and you are stuck with debt...

I personally wouldnt sell something like a XOM though if it means dealing with capital gains.

As for my own holdings..

CNQ - Pretty much the goat. Very good & deep Canadian assets. This is the kind of company that doesn't put any inspirational posters on their walls. They takeover companies that put inspiration companies on their walls, take their assets, and lay them off. Hard workers.. nobody in the office slacks off on Friday afternoons kind of shit. No comment though on current price although I still like them better than any American fracking asset.

MNRL - Very small company (employee wise) without any debt that owns a lot of mineral rights to US oil/gas assets but they don't do any fracking themselves. Much better US play imo than owning an operator. No capex.

FTI - One of the few oil & gas companies that are still cheap. Dark horse. Subsea engineering company. They make most their $$ in short term contracts so their stock price is shit now but I'm expecting them to pickup a lot of work over next few years if oil stays near $70. They are also pivoting to offshore wind engineering so there's a future post-oil.

My tips..

  • Don't invest in super majors. Too much of their business is in refining and pipes. Lots of wasteful capex and administrative pay.

  • Heck, don't invest in US oil producers period.. US shale is a rapidly depleting asset. Fracking is dead in 15 years.

  • Don't invest in oil sitting on unfriendly land (ie Russia)

That leaves Canadian oil producers. My top position CNQ. They've been doing just fine.

Consolation prize goes to good quality US mineral companies (ie they own oil land, but they aren't actually the ones drilling). I like MNRL as they are debt free and have something like only ~40 employees or less. It's just a shell for a bunch of oil/gas land.

If you are looking for something that hasn't had a run up yet..my dark horse is FTI. Subsea engineering. I'm banking on them to pick up a bunch of offshore drilling contracts later this year. Their business tends to lag the price of oil. One of my larger small cap positions now. No gauantees and good luck.

I did beat both S&P and Tesla returns last year mainly on energy heavy lifters (DVN/CNQ), but let go of DVN in Dec.. Still holding CNQ for long term but it's kind of expensive now...

If you want some better names going forward, these are my highest conviction for a 3 year hold:

FTI, MTCH, DOLE, EPD, AMZN, SCHYY, SAFRY

If/when oil gets back to near $55 I am also going to back up the truck on MNRL because fracking is a dead industry and US shale fields depleting.

As a matter of principal I don't let any name be over 10%, and I'd reserve these only for blue chips. Risky stocks I max at 4%. My full portfolio is much more balanced though than yours..over 30 names (NTR, TJX, WMB, TRV, ABEV..). I'm already financially on good shape that I don't need to work full time (although I like my job)..my goal is just to keep up with inflation.

Edit: SCHYY aged very well. :)

Bullish on FTI (integrated oil/gas equipment) and ET (Natural Gas transportation), two fundamentally undervalued energy companies that is bound to go up now COP26 is over and increasing energy prices due to supply chain issues + winter is coming + inflation.

FTI just announced a deal with Exxon Mobil for a subsea operation contract worth $500 mil to $1 bil so it should break the low volume decline in stock price that’s been going on for a few weeks.

Also DBA, an ag commodity ETF that just broke resistance on ascending triangle + food prices will increase with gas prices increasing, phosphate supply issues, inflation, and tractor parts issue.

Disclaimer: calls on all of them. This is not financial advise, you should do your own due diligence, and I am not responsible for your loss.

FTI - used to work for FMC Technologies and owned good bit of their stock in my 401k. Sold it a few years ago. I’m going to say down about 50% from its peak. Probably lost $20k over the last 2-3 years I owned it.

Owned a few coal related stocks that went bankrupt. Alpha Natural Resources and Arch Coal are two I remember.

lol, dude you pretty much just described, in a longwinded fashion, the math proof that shows that diversification is the only free lunch available in economics.

Risk is measured by volatility, which is the standard deviation of a single stock's returns against the broader market. Correlation is just the same math you use to derive volatility, but squared.

Hence, the lower the correllation coefficient among a basket of assets yields a lower level of volatility (risk), while your expected return stays constant.

It's pretty much the foundation of all Modern Portfolio Theory from the last century or so. It's also the only reason to allocation part of your porfolio to gold, despite it the fact that it has no yield and minimal industrial/practical applications, because gold has been one of the few assets that exhibits a negative correlation to the market.

A more intuitive example would be adding Alvarez & Marsal, FTI, or Alix Partners (or any other financial restructuring business) to a portfolio, since we can presume that those business negatively correllate to the broader economy (economy is roaring --> probably not a ton of bankruptcy restructuring work to go around; economy is going tits up --> business is booming for these advisory practices).

Either because we actually need it once corona gets over or the Left mandates it.

Either way I win hippies

Positions: $10k XOM, FTI, FANG, USO, UCO, SLB and GUSH each. $GUSH and $UCO has been easy fucking money holding like a retard in a leveraged fund. Like $3,000 each in 2 months on the 10k hold. Easy until it isn't but fuck it.

Pull up your actual scores used in mortgage lending (FICO 2, 4, and 5). You can get them on MyFICO.com. They are inexpensive and won't show as a hard pull because they are for your use its considered a soft pull.

FTI: Credit Karma scores are Vantage scores which are not at all similar or related to FICO scores. I've seen differences up to 100 pts with FICO vs CK

I'm not sure the payoff of your vehicle will help whatsoever.

When you call a LO, ask them. Don't make changes before you call.

Best of luck with your store, please share info when you've got things up and running would love to support!

We're a product design, development, and production firm, we do a lot of sourcing both in the US and in China. It's well studied (https://fticommunications.com/covid-19/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/FTI-Shifting-Expectations-II-Topline-Results.pdf) that there's a perceived value benefit from have MADE IN THE USA front and center on a product. There's also perceived value built into every aspect of a product. Great design and well manufactured products can certainly counter the fiscal benefit of a made in USA product in many cases.

The fact remains that goods from China are still our largest import and many of the household consumer products we buy are made in countries outside the US. People will certainly answer that they strongly prefer to buy US made goods which might be true but if you we're to do a survey of the products they own many will have been manufactured outside our borders.

If you're looking to up the quality (perceived and otherwise) of the products you're selling you should look design a product that "screams quality" and produce it with a reputable supplier. There are fantastic factories all over the US, South America, Europe, and throughout Asia.

Thoughts on $FTI ???

I went into FTI1 (adjusted calls that have 100 shares FTI, 20 shares TE as the deliverable)

Here's why:

-Selling to front run FTI dropping out of the S&P500 is done.
-Forced index fund selling after FTI dropped out of the S&P is done.
-Oil service industry is super bullish now but FTI didn't rally because of the first 2 points.
-TE is extremely undervalued (it made up 90% of the pre-tax income in prior quarters)
-TE has an island reversal and there is heavy accumulation at the Europe close everyday since the spinoff.
-FTI1 adjusted calls are underpriced. I picked up 100 $12 march call contracts for 5 cents today. The underlying value is $8.42 for the FTI shares and $2.82 for TE for a total of $11.24. These are only 7% from the money and being given away. I will keep taking them as well as others that are in the money and being sold for less than the underlying!
- See above. This is going to lead to a gamma squeeze if someone with a large bankroll picks up on this.

Hell yes brother. Took every penny I made from FTI oil play and just jammed it into 3/19 25C like a fucking caveman. No testing with a smaller portion and averaging down. Just stuffed it in.

Anyone playing FTI? Feels like the price action from the energies spinoff put this thing in oversold territory. I'm up around 10 percent on $8 calls. Not sure if I should take it and run or risk some of them through earnings.

They had 3 significant contracts released in the past week alone. Crude prices on the rise.

Can't really reason with meme stock delusions. It's a sad distraction from other more lucrative plays.

I wrote up a reply 4 days ago for this DD and added another reply today to a comment. Help yourself to some sensible confirmation bias ;)

TLDR: Keep an eye on the energy services sector, especially $FTI.

The play assumes:

  1. Bullish oil price targets as confirmed by the big banks ($70+ per barrel)
  2. CAPEX to go up globally to profit from said price targets b/w 2021-2026
  3. Energy as a reopening and value play in the near term
  4. Consumer demand roaring back as the pandemic draws to an end

Goes without saying, not advice just opinion :)

FTI is flat right now so it could be worse. PBR (Petrobras, Brazilian oil company) is -22%.

I have some FTI stock and this week they spun off part of the company to form Technip Energies (TE) which trades on Euronext. The press release I saw said those holding the FTI stock would receive 1 share of TE for every 5 shares of FTI. I trade on Robinhood and the TE shares have not shown up on my account. Does anyone know what the process is for claiming/accessing them?
