Kohl's Corporation
KSS21.48
I want to buy Kohl's KSS because of it's stupidly high dividends, but if you look at the stock it's in a non stop free fall. I have no idea when it will flatten out.
When options become pricey compared to the liklihood of them expiring in the money, then you want to be a seller of options.
Let's look as trading around ER.
$CRM straggle had breakeven around $173. It shot up and was over $193. That's a case you would want to be a buyer of the option.

$OKTA straggle had a breakeven around $81.50. $OKTA traded above $86 at points this weeks. Another case you want to b ea buyer of the option.
However, the majority of companies with earnings this past week, the option price was greater than the move.
Stocks with ER that didn't move enough to be profitable with a straggle (you make money selling options): $ZM, $KSS, $JWN, $WDAY, $SAVA, $NVAX, $AAP, $RIVN, $CPNG, $AEO, $BLNK, $NCLH, $HZNP, $PLUG, $ANF, $SPLK, $NIO, $CELH, $ZS, $MRVL, $DELL.
I feel that is many cases you win at options by: (1) having a solid model with data (2) trading experience. Sometimes, there are option setups where you can't win. However, in most cases, it comes down to your execution and understanding risk management. Example of risk management, you have a call option, the stock pops up, but starts coming down, you can short the stock to lock in the profit, if you don't want to or can't sell the option at that moment (maybe because its after hours). If the stock goes down, you win. If the stock goes up, you call option protects you.. yeah you lost out on extra profit, but you locked in profit at the given point.
It i always important to know when those monthly options expire, because the option volume always spikes and impacts the underlying.
SJIM is funny, but the holdings are pretty rough; KSS, SNAP, INTC. Should have just stuck to shorting his charitable trust.

Omg the people buying Wendy’s calls just don’t. If anything play TGT/KSS or anything with better odds.

10k open interest Puts on KSS @ 25 strike, 3k @ 30 strike. Basically no calls. Report on wed BFO. Interesting...
Not sure if this was said but KSS is expecting to lose over $1 in EPS conpared to last Q4. Even if they beat expectations it won't be enough.
I think we’ll see net income fall considerably short of expectations. KSS is drowning in inventory and will have discounted to razor thin margins. I also think their CEO and board of directors installed by Mallecum don’t mind if they tank the share price while they clear out inventory.
I shorted W ahead of earnings too! Easy money!! This week I like shorting BURL. What do you think of BURL? (KSS looks sortable as well).
I didn’t write one up this time, but here’s one I discussed with the OP. Kohls appears to be irresponsible with their cash. Borrowing to buyback shares and paying nearly their entire 2022 net income out as dividends while their debt is downgraded to junk. My entire trade thesis is on a gross margin % miss and low margin guidance.

Man ngl I watched those wayfair puts on the sideline like a chump. KSS puts it is
Last week anyone who listened to me on Wayfair puts made money. This week I’m buying Kohls (KSS) puts. The thesis is quite simple. KSS is buried in inventory. Freight (both ocean bound and truck) cost an insane amount to get that to the warehouse. Q4 was especially price competitive as most of the industry had too much inventory.
Q1 has had fire sale prices. We’re talking Eddie Bauer, Nike; Adidas apparel for $10-$15. This leads me to believe that they missed Q4 sales or at the very least Q4 gross margin %.
As a bonus, this is the first conference call with the new CEO. I expect him to say that they’ve got to reduce their old inventory to make room for their new strategy giving guidance that Q1 margins will be low.
Position: Short shares, 3/3 $30 puts, 4/21 $25 puts for the gamblers.
I don’t expect a big move like Wayfair’s, but IV is more reasonable. KSS isn’t headed to BK like Wayfair. They’ve just got a painful inventory and margin problem to work through.
Retail is down and $KSS doesn't move
Its KSS fault
I went in on some puts and was able to pull 100% off today. Also closed out some KSS outs for another 40% gain so not made at the day.
I do think Kohl’s (KSS) and WW will be around long after I’m gone. So buying when they’re beat to hell is a good investment.
Meta didn’t really do that well; and retail earnings have been horrific with holiday sales being bad (i.e JWN and KSS); JPow stated that inflation is still well above goal and a COUPLE of rate hikes are likely appropriate while dismissing the notion of a rate hike pause this year (labor market is out of balance with demand at a 5 month high), China re-opening will also increase oil prices and contribute to inflation.
KSS or CVNA, who still exists in 5 years?
can we all short KSS useless company
At the moment, yes. $8.14 a share would bring their "effective" dividend yield up to the market average for, decent, profitable companies. If their TBV/share comes in at $4.40 or higher for this upcoming 2023 q1 report, then I would re-evaluate them up to a $28.80 fair value - otherwise, I will discount it lower again to make up for the year-over-year book value loss. And yes, I'm saying that - at-the-moment - 2/3 of their dividend is not sustainable, they are definitely struggling with it. So I discount the current yield to a more "effective" or "adjusted" yield in my records.
Like I said, I don't evaluate non-dividend paying companies anymore, but if you want to know which dividend paying companies I believe are currently undervalued to fairly valued and are not struggling to pay their dividend, then this is my list of those type of companies for the USA markets right now:

I don't own all of them, only a handful. But I do watch all of them for swing trade opportunities.
Moved from 80$ to 400$ on a KSS option play last week and from 400$ to 1211$ playing SPY options. Slow and steady wins the race
Reasonable but logic would have got in the way of this pump to screw retail puts (also Jwn and KSS lowering their outlook and retail spending going down was also ignored). I hope it’s green early next week so I can go short and buy puts
wtf happened to KSS ? a +5% swing after abyssimal sales report ? this market man
I can get 3x shares of KSS, same dividends and no lawsuit....and better EPS.

KSS POISON PILL ENDS IN IST WEEK OF FEBRUARY
KSS was the answer
if $m is having a bad time, one can only imagine what happens with $kss
Earnings is coming up in Feb. KSS is profitable and decent on growth eps.
Just some bullshit article.
KSS - I tried a merger arbitrage trade and they ended up not getting an offer after negotiating. Wiped out 50% of my account
$KSS 25 still an issue for bulls
Why did I buy stupid shit like KSS?
Lots of fees on these! What is your total? I spent $1400 in fees to lose $10k in options over the last month. Lost a lot on otm puts on manu meta and kss.
Thoughts on KSS? Seems like a buy right now.
I almost bought puts but learned my lesson from $KSS and $M
PBR, VALE, ABEV are great value stocks with good dividends that will outperform if not nationalized. Position size appropriately that if they drop to zero you‘ll be able to stomach the loss. PBR is trading at 2x earnings.
I think there’s rules against tickers of sub $1B companies but there’s only two publicly traded firearms companies in the US, they are market cap around 700M. They’ve been hit hard in the last few months. I loaded up on more.
WBA Walgreens looks cheap And nice diversifier from my otherwise commodity producers.
I’m keeping an eye on Kohls KSS because it looks cheap but has run up a bunch lately so I’d like to be a pull back. It may not happen and I may miss it but I am okay missing stuff. I want to buy $1 for to cents, rather than buy $1 for $2 and hope it goes to $3.
From a macro level, shoppers will be forced to downgrade. Target shoppers go to Walmart. And I think Kohls is a lower tier kind of place in the middle class realm. I can see new shoppers downgrading from something better down to kohls. Also there’s the bullwhip effect and I think lots of apparel and home goods places are overstocked. So they might offload stuff to kohls cheaper than usual.
I really like gold miners like GDXJ but it’s run up 30% in recent weeks so it’s tough to say it’s as good of a deal as when I got in, but I think 2x or 3x over a year is possible. If the fed pivots, GDXJ could soar. Gold is at 1750 now. It was over $2000 in early 2020 before we got 30% debasement of the dollar supply. It *should* be $3,000 an ounce now. Gold miners are a leveraged play in that if gold doubles, then miners might 5x or 10x. But it works both ways if gold goes down.
Miners use diesel as input cost so being long oil stocks is a good internal hedge.
Speaking of oil. I loaded up on tanker stocks when the pipeline magically exploded and they’re up 40% in a couple months. FRO is my fav but it’s run up a bit so Id wait to see if it drops down back to 10 before entering.
KSS. Volatility for plays but high divided (6%)
Well, just a quick look at those and:
- FIVN beat earnings by 300% ($(.20) exp vs $.40 actual)
- KSS jettisoned their underperforming CEO the next morning (the stock was tanking b4 that)
- ADSK missed on earnings ($1.07 exp vs $.91 actual)
So, everything in your post was materially wrong, which would explain why you keep getting it wrong.
Puts for $KSS
Yeah. It seems the only position with KSS is a long position…. Hmmmm…. I think I just found stock number 2. Good luck!
I've been hodling puts since September anticipating any wrongdoing because ETTD. I just had to sit back and wait. I even rolled out my original Oct expiry puts to Dec.
Looks like I'm getting an early Thanksgiving gift to make up for my $M and $KSS loses this past week.
I like to go right before Christmas and get it all done in one day $kss
In the same boat with $KSS puts, couldn't believe it didn't nuke today. Still holding em & praying.
So that's why my Jan $40 and $60c were in the green today. I thought it just the IV giving me a consolation after my $M and $KSS earnings puts disappointed me today. Here's hoping for the turnaround in my retail puts and my UPST calls giving me an early Thanksgiving present.
No guidance and it crashes. KSS also had no guidance and it got pumped.
> I added to $LEVI today.
The terrible KSS ceo is heading there next
Now the market will pump stocks that don't give guidance: KSS

Thoughts on kohls options? (KSS)
I saw that TJX bounced on earnings today, so I bought some KSS calls since it was down by 9%. I'll know by 8:30 am if that was a dumb idea or not.
Puts on KSS for tomorrow
Anyone playing KSS tomorrow ER? Option chain for 30DTE loads of PUTS at 27.5 and 25
I expect KSS (Kohls) to fall hard. Retail struggling and their stores are always empty.

KSS Kohl’s, big dividend and personal experiences scare people but I’m fine holding for the dividend. I don’t think they have a huge opportunity of growth but I think they have an opportunity of more partnerships with Amazon or being bought out, which would make it boom and I would probably sell.

Sorry ShopBitter, I apologize for suggesting the use of the term "revenue" and violating GAAP. 😂 It's been a bit since I've sat in a cubicle and stuffed big numbers into small boxes. I should have asked that you use proper words like "moolah" and "cashola"...
If ever some of these apes are lucky enough to take an accounting class and learn how to "anal"yze a balance sheet, they'll realize that the number for "shareholders' equity" is the same, regardless of how some incompetent scribe booked it up above.
But hey! At least I'm not beating a dead horse and encouraging others to buy KSS back in May (~$40) by writing, "This thing doesn't have room to fall." 😘
BTW, what is the current shareholders' equity in AMC corporation? Anyone...ANYONE?! ala Ben Stein in 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' 😭
I’m trying to be consistent in my positioning. It’s working on the long positions. Don’t give up, just stay the course and be smart. Rally higher—sell calls against the position. Rallies again? Roll the calls forward two maturities. Sells off? Buy the calls back, sell the stock, then sell deep ITM puts. Slowly you will keep collecting premium and drop that initial cost basis down. It works, but you have to be disciplined with it and not throw it to the side on a big IV day like today. Will probably re-enter KSS and NET Friday using this strategy. DCA works over the long-long, but also you gotta realize that if you were buying in at levels substantially higher, long-long means 3-5 years. You’re only 1 year into this now, have patience and stay the course.
I've switched up my strategy to only swing trading now (holding over several months waiting for sentiment to change), but I still have one stock from one of my very first strategy iterations of a long term buy and hold approach (based on deepest discount to book value for profitable companies). Looking to liquidate that one next year due to tax implications...
Canadian Market:
YGR.to (that long term holding I was refering to)
ARG.to
ARE.to
LB.to
CSH-UN.to (my current top pick for swing trading at the moment)

USA Market:
SPG
CM (this was a horrendously failed Norbert's Gambit - I wouldn't have bought it otherwise)
KSS
KRO (my current top pick for swing trading)
And I will very likely be adding HASI (via rebalancing) to the roster very soon since it is virtually tied with KRO for my top picks.
