Business
Dominion Energy, Inc. provides regulated electricity and natural gas services to approximately 3.6 million electric customers in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, and 500,000 natural gas customers in South Carolina; operates one of the nation's largest offshore wind projects through the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) initiative and a substantial solar portfolio; generates electricity from a diverse mix including nuclear, natural gas, renewables, and hydro sources totaling around 30 gigawatts of capacity; maintains extensive electric transmission and distribution networks spanning 10,600 miles of transmission lines and 79,700 miles of distribution lines; and develops battery storage, onshore wind, and other clean energy solutions to support growing demand, particularly from data centers. Headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, the company traces its origins to 1909 as Virginia Railway & Power Company and focuses on residential, commercial, and industrial customers across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast United States, with additional carbon-free generation assets in New England. Dominion Energy advances its clean energy transition as the largest producer of carbon-free electricity in New England and pursues net-zero emissions by 2050 through methane reductions and renewable expansions. In recent developments, Dominion Energy announces a $50.1 billion infrastructure investment plan for 2025-2029, including $12.1 billion in 2025, to expand grid capacity, renewables, and data center support; completes the $160 million acquisition of the Kitty Hawk North offshore wind lease from Avangrid in October 2024, renaming it CVOW-South for up to 800 megawatts of potential capacity in the 2030s; progresses the CVOW project to 66% completion as of late 2025 for delivery by 2026; and enters discussions to acquire Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) to bolster its position in Data Center Alley.
