Business
Hess Corporation (NYSE: HES) is a leading global independent energy company engaged in the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas. Founded in 1933 and headquartered in New York City, the company operates primarily in key regions including the Bakken Shale in North Dakota, the deepwater Gulf of Mexico, the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana, and natural gas assets in Peninsular Malaysia and Thailand; its core products encompass crude oil from high-quality reservoirs, associated natural gas and natural gas liquids such as ethane, propane, and butane, marketed to global refineries, utilities, industrial consumers, and petrochemical plants. Hess maintains an industry-leading position in the U.S. Bakken shale play, ranks among the largest producers in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico, and participates in one of the industry's largest recent oil discoveries offshore Guyana, where it holds a 30% non-operated interest in the prolific Stabroek Block with over 11 billion barrels of oil equivalent in discovered recoverable resources. In a transformative development completed in July 2025, Hess was acquired by Chevron Corporation in a $53 billion all-stock transaction, enabling integration of its world-class Guyana and Bakken assets into Chevron's portfolio while achieving $1 billion in projected annual run-rate cost synergies by year-end; this followed resolution of arbitration with ExxonMobil affirming Chevron's acquisition rights, with former Hess CEO John B. Hess joining Chevron's board of directors.
