Business
Targa Resources Corp. operates as an integrated midstream energy company specializing in natural gas and natural gas liquids (NGLs) gathering, processing, treating, fractionating, transporting, storing, and marketing. The company’s core product and service portfolio includes natural gas gathering from wellheads, compression and treatment to remove impurities, processing to separate natural gas liquids and condensate, NGL fractionation into ethane, propane, butanes, and isobutane, transportation of NGLs and crude oil via pipelines and rail, storage and terminaling of crude oil and NGL products, and sales of natural gas, NGLs, and condensate. Targa's operations are primarily focused in key U.S. energy production regions including the Permian Basin, the Gulf Coast, the STACK and SCOOP plays in Oklahoma, and other major shale basins. Founded in 2005 and headquartered in Houston, Texas, Targa has grown to become one of the largest independent midstream energy companies in the United States. The company operates through two main segments: Gathering and Processing, which encompasses gathering, compressing, treating, processing, and sale of natural gas and NGLs, and Logistics and Transportation, which includes transportation, storage, fractionation, export activities, and crude oil logistics services. Targa employs fee-based, percent-of-proceeds, and keep-whole contracts, providing stable cash flow and mitigating commodity price risks. In recent major developments, Targa Resources announced in December 2025 the acquisition of Stakeholder Midstream, LLC for $1.25 billion in cash, expanding its natural gas gathering and processing footprint in the Permian Basin. This acquisition enhances Targa's sour gas treating capabilities and adds approximately 480 miles of natural gas gathering lines, along with 180 million cubic feet per day of cryogenic processing and sour-gas treating capacity. Additionally, in 2025, Targa entered a strategic joint venture in the Blackcomb Pipeline to build the Traverse pipeline, further expanding its export infrastructure network. These initiatives reflect continued strategic expansion and organic growth opportunities in key U.S. shale plays. Targa Resources primarily serves natural gas producers, refiners, petrochemical companies, exporters, and wholesale distributors with a comprehensive suite of midstream services. The company employs over 3,300 employees and manages an extensive infrastructure network of pipelines, processing plants, storage terminals, and fractionation facilities that support the efficient, safe, and reliable delivery of energy products to domestic and international markets. Targa’s integrated operations and recent acquisitions position it strongly within the oil and gas midstream sector towards meeting increasing demand for cleaner fuels and feedstocks.
