Founded in 1985 and headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama, the company resulted from a 2022 business combination with Adtran Networks SE (formerly ADVA Optical Networking), which expanded its portfolio to include end-to-end data transport products and Oscilloquartz timing solutions; this integration prompted a Business Efficiency Program completed in late 2024, involving product line discontinuations, inventory adjustments, and closure of its Greifswald, Germany facility. In 2024, ADTRAN self-certified as Buy America-compliant to support U.S. Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) funding eligibility for communications service providers. Recent financial activities include pricing a $175 million convertible senior notes offering due 2030 in September 2025 at 3.75% interest to repay borrowings under its credit agreement and fund capped call transactions. The company continues to innovate with demonstrations of 400 Gbit/s QKD-secured data transmission in collaboration with Orange.
