Founded in 1938 and headquartered in Katy, Texas, the company offers an extensive assortment of products including hunting, fishing, and camping equipment and gear; sports and leisure products; footwear; apparel; outdoor furniture; and athletic and casual footwear from both national brands such as Nike, adidas, YETI, Stanley, and the Jordan Brand, as well as its exclusive private-label brands including Magellan Outdoors, Freely, R.O.W., BCG, H2OX, Redfield, and Mosaic. Academy also provides services such as grill and bike assembly, scope mounting, bore sighting, line winding/spooling, and propane exchange, with hunting and fishing licenses available for purchase in stores. In recent years, Academy has pursued aggressive national expansion, surpassing 300 stores by early 2025 and entering new markets with first locations in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia. The company continues to plan for further growth with intentions to open 20 to 25 new stores during fiscal year 2025, targeting up to 160–180 locations in the next five years. Strategic partnerships include an exclusive 2024 collaboration with DoorDash to provide on-demand delivery services. Academy also announced the launch of the Jordan Brand from Nike across its stores starting in April 2025, enhancing its portfolio of premium national brands. The company maintains a focus on localized assortments featuring top brands at competitive pricing while optimizing capital expenditure to support new store openings, remodels, and technology investments. Academy Sports and Outdoors operates primarily through its retail stores and e-commerce platform in the U.S., targeting customers seeking quality sporting goods and outdoor lifestyle products. It upholds a mission to deliver value and an enjoyable shopping experience, fostering growth through both organic expansion and selective partnerships.
