Business
Candel Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ: CADL) is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company that develops off-the-shelf viral immunotherapies designed to elicit individualized, systemic antitumor immune responses to treat solid tumors. The company's lead product candidate, CAN-2409 (adenovirovec), an investigational multimodal biological immunotherapy from its adenovirus platform, is advancing in a completed Phase 3 trial under FDA Special Protocol Assessment for intermediate-to-high-risk localized prostate cancer, where it has received Regenerative Medicine Advanced Therapy and Fast Track designations; ongoing Phase 2 trials in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and borderline resectable pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), with Fast Track and Orphan Drug designations for PDAC, respectively; and positive topline overall survival data from Phase 2a trials in both NSCLC and PDAC. CAN-3110, the lead candidate from its herpes simplex virus (HSV) platform, targets recurrent high-grade glioma in a Phase 1b trial. The enLIGHTEN Discovery Platform further supports development of novel HSV-based viral immunotherapies for additional solid tumors through systematic engineering leveraging human biology and advanced analytics. Founded in 2003 and formerly known as Advantagene, Inc. until its name change in November 2020, Candel Therapeutics is headquartered at 117 Kendrick Street, Suite 450, Needham, Massachusetts. In October 2025, the company entered a $130 million term loan facility with Trinity Capital Inc., drawing down $50 million initially to bolster its cash position to $137.2 million pro forma as of September 30, 2025, funding pivotal Phase 3 initiation for CAN-2409 in NSCLC in Q2 2026, BLA preparations for prostate cancer, and pre-commercial activities pending approval. Candel concurrently prioritized its portfolio by focusing internal resources on prostate cancer and NSCLC programs while pursuing externally funded partnerships for CAN-2409 in PDAC, following compelling Phase 2a data and positive regulatory feedback. The company also completed patient enrollment and reported positive pivotal topline Phase 3 data for CAN-2409 in prostate cancer, positioning it for BLA submission.
