Founded in 2016 and headquartered in Montevideo, Uruguay, DLocal operates in over 40 countries through 19 offices worldwide including locations in Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, UAE, Turkey, the UK, and Singapore. The company, Uruguay's first unicorn, went public on Nasdaq in June 2021 and maintains a single operating segment in payment processing with subsidiaries under its Cayman Islands-domiciled holding entity. In recent developments, DLocal announced its intention to acquire AZA Finance, a pan-African payments provider valued at approximately $150 million, marking its largest acquisition and first major expansion outside Latin America to enhance cross-border capabilities, treasury operations, and stablecoin support in Africa. The company secured key regulatory licenses including a UK Authorised Payment Institution, approvals in UAE, Turkey, and the Philippines, and certification as a Pix Payment Initiation Service Provider in Brazil.
