Business
E.ON SE, headquartered in Essen, Germany and founded in 2000 through the merger of VEBA and VIAG, operates as one of Europe's largest investor-owned energy companies focused on networks, customer solutions, and renewables; it serves more than 50 million customers across over 15 European countries including Germany, the UK, Sweden, Italy, and Romania with approximately 75,000 employees. The company provides electricity and gas distribution through its Energy Networks segment; supplies power, gas, heat, and related services via Customer Solutions including digital products for electric mobility, energy efficiency, smart heating, home energy management systems, photovoltaic and battery solutions, and flexibility aggregation; and generates renewable energy from onshore and offshore wind power plants as well as solar farms. E.ON offers innovative customer solutions such as E.ON Next in the UK, which integrates migrated customers from Npower and Powershop; operates nuclear power via subsidiary PreussenElektra GmbH at plants including Brokdorf, Grohnde, and Isar 2; and maintains a 50% stake in Turkey's coal-fired Tufanbeyli power station alongside IT services through E.ON Digital Technology. In December 2024, E.ON agrees to sell its majority stakes in Romanian subsidiaries E.ON Energie Romania (serving 3.4 million customers with gas and electricity) and E.ON Asist Complet to MVM Group, with the transaction expected to close in the first half of 2025 to sharpen focus on core strategic areas of sustainability, digitization, and growth; the company boosts investments to €5.1 billion in the first nine months of 2025 (up from €4.7 billion prior year) as part of a €43 billion plan through 2028 emphasizing Energy Networks; and secures EU funding for the HDV-E project in partnership with Voltix and GreenWay while ranking top in the Quantum Innovation Index for the energy sector.
