Business
Equinor ASA is an international energy company engaged in the exploration, production, and refining of petroleum products; the production and marketing of natural gas; and the development of renewable energy solutions including offshore wind, solar power, and carbon capture and storage technologies. The company offers a portfolio of crude oil and natural gas liquids from fields in the Norwegian Continental Shelf, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and the United States; operates refineries and petrochemical plants producing gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and lubricants under brands such as Equinor and select joint ventures; and provides low-carbon solutions like hydrogen production, energy trading, and electrification services. Equinor serves upstream oil and gas producers, downstream refiners, utilities, industrial customers, and governments worldwide, with primary operations in Norway, the Americas, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East. Founded in 1972 as Statoil and headquartered in Stavanger, Norway, the company rebranded to Equinor in 2018 to reflect its strategic shift toward sustainable energy. In recent developments, Equinor has advanced its renewable portfolio through partnerships such as the 2024 joint venture with Partners Group for offshore wind projects in the U.S. and Europe; completed the acquisition of Suncor Energy's stake in the Fenja field offshore Norway in 2024; secured a major funding round for its Empire Wind 1 project off New York, achieving financial close in 2024; and launched new hydrogen production facilities in Norway as part of its 2025-2030 growth plan emphasizing net-zero emissions by 2050.
