Business
Hanesbrands Inc. (NYSE: HBI) manufactures and markets everyday basic innerwear and activewear apparel worldwide through a portfolio of leading brands including Hanes, Champion, Maidenform, Bali, Playtex, Bonds, DIM, JMS/Just My Size, Bras N Things, Nur Die/Nur Der, Lovable, Wonderbra, Berlei, Alternative, L'eggs and Gear for Sports; core products encompass men's, women's and children's underwear, panties, socks, bras, shapewear, T-shirts, fleece, performance apparel, thermals, sport shirts, hosiery and home goods. The company operates three reportable segments—Innerwear, Activewear and International—with Innerwear focusing on U.S. basics and intimate apparel; Activewear supplying T-shirts, fleece and performance products to wholesalers, retailers and embellishers; and International delivering innerwear, activewear, hosiery and home goods across Australasia, Europe, Asia, Latin America, Canada and other regions. Hanesbrands maintains a vertically integrated supply chain with over 70% of units produced in owned or dedicated facilities in Central America, the Caribbean, Asia and elsewhere, distributing through mass merchants like Walmart and Target, mid-tier and department stores, e-commerce platforms, company-owned outlets and direct-to-consumer channels. Founded through a 2006 spin-off from Sara Lee Corporation and headquartered in Winston-Salem, North Carolina—with a planned relocation of its global headquarters to downtown Winston-Salem in early 2025—the company targets mass-market consumers seeking comfort, value and performance. In a transformative development completed in late November 2025, Canadian apparel maker Gildan Activewear Inc. acquires Hanesbrands in a $2.2 billion all-cash-and-stock transaction valued at approximately $4.4 billion including debt, doubling Gildan's scale, integrating Hanesbrands' iconic brands with Gildan's low-cost manufacturing platform, and targeting at least $200 million in annual run-rate cost synergies from supply chain consolidation and operational efficiencies; the deal, initially announced in August 2025, positions the combined entity for enhanced innovation, global expansion and improved retail reach while maintaining a strong presence in Winston-Salem.
