Business
Huntsman Corporation is a global manufacturer and marketer of differentiated and specialty chemicals headquartered in The Woodlands, Texas, founded in 1970. The company operates through three primary segments: Polyurethanes, Performance Products, and Advanced Materials. Its Polyurethanes segment produces MDI products, polyols, thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU), and formulated MDI systems used in applications such as building insulation, automotive seating and interiors, footwear, adhesives, coatings, and elastomers. The Performance Products segment manufactures amines, maleic anhydride, and carbonates serving industries including agrochemicals, energy, coatings, adhesives, sealants, personal care, and construction. The Advanced Materials segment offers epoxy, phenoxy, acrylic, and polyurethane-based polymer formulations that support aerospace, automotive, electronics, and energy sectors, including materials critical to lithium-ion battery performance and emerging clean energy technologies. Recent developments include strategic restructuring and cost-cutting efforts in response to global economic pressures, including workforce reductions and plant closures in Europe to improve operational efficiency amid high energy costs and weak demand. The company invests approximately $180 to $190 million in capital expenditures for 2025 focusing on environmental, health, safety upgrades, and facility expansions. Huntsman has emphasized a dual strategy of liquidity preservation and operational efficiency while maintaining investments in innovation, particularly in clean energy and advanced materials, to align with sustainability trends and emerging technologies. The company further reported progress toward its 2025 sustainability goals targeting significant reductions in energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Huntsman continues to serve a diverse customer base globally with manufacturing and R&D facilities in over 25 countries.
