Business
Lifecore Biomedical, Inc. (LFCR) operates as an integrated contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) focused on the development, aseptic filling, and packaging of sterile injectable pharmaceuticals and medical devices. The company manufactures pharmaceutical-grade, non-animal-sourced sodium hyaluronate in bulk form as an active pharmaceutical ingredient and excipient; produces formulated and filled syringes, cartridges, and vials for injectable products treating ophthalmic, orthopedic, and other medical conditions; and provides comprehensive development services including analytical method development and validation, formulation development, sterile filtration, process scale-up, pilot and stability studies, process validation, and clinical trial material production for both hyaluronan-based and non-hyaluronan aseptically filled products. These offerings support customers from preclinical through commercial stages, with expertise in highly viscous formulations exceeding 100,000 cP, small molecules, biologics, and combination products, primarily serving pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies in the United States. Founded in 1965 and headquartered in Chaska, Minnesota, Lifecore Biomedical maintains U.S.-based manufacturing facilities with proven quality management systems compliant for APIs, excipients, medical devices, drug products, and biologics, including on-site analytical testing, ICH stability studies, serialization, and sterilization options. In recent developments, the company changed its name from Landec Corporation in November 2022 to reflect its focused biomedical operations. In October 2025, Lifecore signed a commercial site transfer agreement with a major multinational pharmaceutical organization to become the exclusive supplier for a leading injectable product following regulatory approval, marking the second deal with this partner in recent months and expanding into new modalities while increasing capacity utilization. Additionally, it secured a preclinical formulation development agreement with an early-stage biotechnology firm and, over fiscal 2025, signed nine new programs including three early-stage ones in the fourth quarter, broadening its commercial and pipeline customer base across ophthalmic therapeutics and beyond. The company plans ERP implementation go-live in Q1 2026 and a shift to calendar-year fiscal reporting, supported by a late-stage pipeline targeting multiple launches from 2026 through 2029.
