Business
LyondellBasell Industries N.V. (LYB) is a leading global chemical company that manufactures and markets a broad range of polymers and chemicals, including olefins and polyolefins such as polyethylene and polypropylene; specialty polymers like high-density polyethylene (HDPE), linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), and polypropylene compounds under brands including Alathon, Icorene, Lupolen, Petrothene, and Polimax; and oxygenated chemicals, propylene oxide derivatives, and intermediates such as ethylene oxide, propylene glycol, and glycol ethers. The company also produces advanced catalysts and technology licensing services for polyolefin production processes; refining products including gasoline and diesel blending components; and sustainable solutions like renewable and circular polymers targeted at reducing plastic waste. LyondellBasell serves diverse industries including packaging, automotive, construction, agriculture, and electronics, with operations spanning North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East; it was founded in 2007 through the merger of Lyondell Chemical and Basell Polyolefins, and is headquartered in Houston, Texas. In recent developments, the company launched new product lines focused on circular economy initiatives, including mechanically recycled polyethylene resins and advanced recycling technologies in 2024; formed strategic partnerships for sustainable feedstock supply chains with renewable producers; and completed a major acquisition of a specialty chemicals firm to expand its propylene oxide derivatives portfolio in early 2025, alongside expansions in U.S. Gulf Coast manufacturing capacity to meet growing demand for high-performance polymers.
