Business
Vail Resorts, Inc. operates as a holding company primarily engaged in the ownership and operation of mountain resorts and related hospitality services. Its core products and services include mountain resort operations; ski and snowboarding activities; lodging accommodations; food and beverage services; ski school and equipment rental; and lift ticket and season pass sales through its Epic Pass subscription model. The company operates more than 30 resorts across North America, including notable properties such as Vail Mountain, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone, Whistler Blackcomb, Park City, and Stowe, as well as international assets in Europe and Australia. Vail Resorts also offers innovative technology-driven guest services such as the My Epic app, which features real-time mountain information, mobile lift tickets, and the AI-powered My Epic Assistant to enhance guest experience. Founded in 1997 and headquartered in Broomfield, Colorado, Vail Resorts has expanded through acquisitions and strategic developments. In 2024, the company completed the acquisition of Crans-Montana Mountain Resort in Switzerland, enhancing its European presence. It has also invested significantly in resort infrastructure, including multiyear projects at Park City and Vail ski areas, such as a new 10-seat gondola, on-mountain dining and ski school terrain improvements, and a new base village development in Vail. The company launched My Epic Gear, a ski equipment rental membership program that offers flexible and convenient gear access through its My Epic app, expanding revenue streams beyond traditional lift tickets and lodging. Vail Resorts has announced a two-year Resource Efficiency Transformation Plan aimed at improving operational efficiency and scaling for future growth. Despite some recent declines in skier visits and pass unit sales in fiscal 2025, the company reported growth in season pass revenue and ancillary spend per guest, reflecting strong cost discipline and strategic initiatives to enhance guest engagement and visitation. These efforts include introducing Epic Friend Tickets, which give pass holders the ability to share discounted lift tickets with friends and family, and ongoing enhancements to pricing and marketing strategies to increase lift ticket visitation. Vail Resorts targets both consumer and institutional markets, focusing on delivering exceptional guest experiences while expanding its resort network and technological capabilities to sustain long-term growth.
