Business
Materion Corporation (NYSE: MTRN) is a global producer of advanced engineered materials serving demanding applications in aerospace, defense, semiconductor, consumer electronics, data centers, energy, medical devices, automotive, industrial, and telecommunications markets. The company manufactures and supplies high-performance alloys and composites including beryllium products and SupremEX aluminum silicon carbide metal matrix composites; thin film deposition materials such as tantalum, niobium, and precious/non-precious metal targets for physical vapor deposition; specialty engineered metals, technical ceramics, and metal matrix composites; precision optical filters, thin film coatings, and optical assemblies; inorganic chemicals and powders; microelectronics packaging solutions; and clad metals, precision filters, and specialty coatings. Materion operates through three segments—Performance Materials offering advanced alloys, specialty materials, and performance solutions; Electronic Materials providing advanced chemicals, microelectronic packaging, precious and non-precious metals; and Precision Optics designing thin film coatings, optical filters, and assemblies—with facilities across 30 locations worldwide including the United States, Europe, Asia, and serving customers in 66 countries. Founded in 1931 as Brush Beryllium Company in Cleveland, Ohio, and headquartered in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, Materion unified its operations under its current name in 2011 and has since expanded through strategic acquisitions. Recent developments include the completion in July 2025 of its acquisition of manufacturing assets for tantalum solutions in Dangjin City, South Korea, from Konasol, enhancing its semiconductor capabilities and Asian footprint to better serve Tier I customers in high-performance computing and AI applications. In October 2025, Materion announced a supply agreement with Commonwealth Fusion Systems to provide materials for fusion energy technologies; authorized a new $50 million share repurchase program; and reported strong third-quarter financial results with record EBITDA margins in Electronic Materials and Precision Optics segments. These initiatives reflect ongoing strategic expansions in new energy, semiconductors, and precision optics amid robust demand growth.
