Business
Talos Energy Inc. (NYSE: TALO) is a technically driven independent exploration and production company focused on offshore oil and natural gas assets in the United States Gulf of Mexico and offshore Mexico; it engages in the acquisition, exploration, exploitation, and development of shallow water and deepwater properties in core areas including Green Canyon, Mississippi Canyon, Shelf, and Gulf Coast regions, as well as the Zama field in Mexico's Sureste Basin. The company produces and sells crude oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids (NGLs) extracted from its operated and non-operated fields, utilizing subsea tie-backs to existing infrastructure such as the Green Canyon 18, Lobster, Prince, Neptune, Brutus/Glider, Pompano, Amberjack, Ram Powell, and Cognac facilities; it also leases offshore blocks to other operators and maintains a significant seismic data library for resource evaluation. Founded in 2011 and headquartered in Houston, Texas, Talos operates approximately three-quarters of its offshore production, targeting refineries, utilities, and industrial consumers across the U.S. Gulf Coast and Mexico with daily output averaging around 92 thousand barrels of oil equivalent in 2024 from proved reserves valued at $4.2 billion PV-10. Recent major developments include the January 2024 announcement of a $1.29 billion acquisition of QuarterNorth Energy Inc., adding high-quality deepwater assets like the Katmai discovery and fields including Big Bend, Galapagos, Genovesa, and Gunflint, which expands production scale by approximately 30 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day (75% oil), reduces base decline rates by 20%, and delivers $50 million in annual run-rate synergies through operational and G&A optimizations; the deal, comprising $965 million cash and 24.8 million shares, closed in early 2024 with fully committed bridge financing and enhances inventory for future drilling. In March 2024, Talos divested its Talos Low Carbon Solutions subsidiary, encompassing carbon capture and sequestration projects Bayou Bend CCS, Harvest Bend CCS, and Coastal Bend CCS along the U.S. Gulf Coast, to TotalEnergies for $125 million plus potential milestone payments, streamlining focus on core upstream operations; additionally, in December 2024, the company amended its credit agreement to reduce its borrowing base to $925 million with lender consent requirements above $800 million exposure, supporting deleveraging amid $1.49 billion total debt and revised 2024 production guidance of 91-94 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day.
