Business
United Rentals, Inc. is the world's largest equipment rental company, offering approximately 4,800 classes of rental equipment with a total original equipment cost of $20.59 billion, including general rentals such as trucks, aerial work platforms, earthmoving equipment, forklifts, and compressors; aerial rentals encompassing lifts and telehandlers; and specialty rentals comprising trench safety shoring systems, power and HVAC generators and climate control units, fluid solutions for liquid management, tool solutions with stocked trailers, reliable onsite services including portable toilets and restroom trailers, and storage containers with mobile offices. The company also provides new and used equipment sales, servicing, safety training, and construction consumables to construction and industrial firms, utilities, municipalities, homeowners, and other customers across an integrated network of 1,520 locations in North America spanning 49 U.S. states and all Canadian provinces, 38 branches in Europe, 23 in Australia, and 19 in New Zealand. Founded in 1997 and headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut, United Rentals operates primarily in the heavy and industrial equipment rental industry with a focus on North American markets. Among its latest major developments, the company agreed in January 2025 to acquire H&E Equipment Services, Inc. for approximately $4.8 billion in enterprise value, a transaction expected to close in the first quarter of 2025 that expands its fleet by over 64,000 units valued at $2.9 billion, enhances capacity in key U.S. geographies, and unlocks $130 million in projected annual cross-sell revenue synergies through access to United Rentals' specialty offerings. Earlier, United Rentals completed the acquisition of BlueLine Rental from Platinum Equity in July 2024, bolstering its position in general equipment rentals. These moves align with its "grow the core" strategy, supporting ongoing expansions in industrial, infrastructure, and specialty segments amid strong third-quarter 2025 performance and raised full-year revenue guidance.
